South El Monte, Calif. – On January 19, 2024, a DUI Checkpoint was conducted in the City of South El Monte. One driver was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance, one driver was arrested for driving a vehicle while be a drug addict, four drivers were issued citations for driving on a suspended license, and fifteen drivers were issued a citation for driving without a driver’s license.
The DUI checkpoint was held on Santa Anita Avenue near the intersection with Central Avenue from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
