On December 31, 2023, deputies with Camarillo Patrol Services responded to a vandalism that occurred on the 200 block of North Glenn Drive in the City of Camarillo. Upon arrival, deputies located multiple fresh graffiti vandalisms. The patrol deputy recognized the graffiti was gang related and identified the suspect as Juan Bejar. The deputy passed the information to Camarillo Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) detectives.
Detectives were able to locate Juan at an apartment, located on the 1100 block of Oxnard Boulevard in the City of Oxnard. Detectives authored a warrant for the search of the apartment which was approved by a Ventura County Superior Court Judge.
On January 18, 2024, SEU detectives with assistance of deputies assigned to the Camarillo Directed Enforcement Unit, served the search warrant at the apartment. During the service of the search warrant, the occupants refused to open the door prompting detectives to utilize tools to breach it.
Once the door was breached, Juan immediately complied with orders from the detectives and was taken into custody. Vanessa Bejar and Sofia Escobar willfully refused to exit the residence and ignored orders from the detectives. Ultimately, detectives had to enter the residence to detain Sofia and Vanessa.
During a search of the residence, additional evidence further implicating Juan in the vandalism in the City of Camarillo was located. Additionally, Juan was the suspect in additional graffiti vandalisms in the Cities of Camarillo and Thousand Oaks. These vandalisms have cost each city thousands of dollars to repair which is a burden on the taxpayers.
Juan was arrested for a violation of PC 594(b)(1) – Felony Vandalism and PC 186.22(a) – Gang Enhancement. Juan is currently in custody at the Ventura County Main Jail awaiting trial.
Sofia and Vanessa were both arrested for a violation of PC 148(a)(1) – Resist, Obstruct, or Delay a Peace Officer. Sofia and Vanessa were both released on their own recognizance with a future court date.
The Camarillo Special Enforcement Unit is comprised of a sergeant and four detectives, whose focus is assisting patrol services with the investigation of various crimes including, but not limited to, the investigation of illegal firearms, gang related crimes, and graffiti vandalism.
