Newark Police Department Crime Blotter Jan 15-21, 2024

The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, JANUARY 15, 2024: 
1:01 AM: Officer Soto responded to a bar on Thornton Avenue and arrested a 31-year-old male out of Hayward for being drunk in public and obstructing/resisting an officer. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
3:12 PM: Sergeant Warren initiated a traffic enforcement stop of a vehicle and contacted two occupants. The driver (35-year-old male of Tracy) and passenger (38-year-old female out of Newark) were arrested for possession of cocaine, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a shaved key. Both were booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17, 2024: 
8:14 AM: Officer McCuin investigated a report of a stolen vehicle from Jacaranda Drive.
 
1:22 PM: Officer C. Torres recovered an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the area of Thornton Avenue and SR-84.
 
2:30 PM: Officer Torres investigated the report of a stolen vehicle from the 37200 block of Oak Street.
 
3:24 PM: Officer McCuin recovered an unoccupied stolen vehicle from Merion Drive.
 
8:18 PM: Officer S. Torres recovered a stolen vehicle on Locust Street.
 
THURSDAY, JANUARY 18, 2024: 
6:49 AM: Officer Townsend investigated an auto burglary on Bottle Brush Court. The loss was tools. 
 
8:04 AM: Officers investigated an auto burglary on Charles Street. The lock was sawed off and the loss was tools.
 
8:22 AM: Officer Townsend investigated an auto burglary on Olive Street. Entry was made via window smash, and the loss was tools.
 
8:42 AM: Officer C. Torres investigated an auto burglary on Dupont Avenue. Entry was made via window smash and there was no loss. 
 
6:31 PM: Officer S. Torres investigated the fraudulent use of a credit card in Newark.
 
FRIDAY, JANUARY 19, 2024: 
2:27 AM: Officer Cervantes responded to Wells Avenue for a report of an auto burglary that just occurred. Entry was made via window smash and there was no loss.  
  
SATURDAY, JANUARY 20, 2024: 
3:27 PM: Officer Williams located an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the 5600 block of Wintergreen Drive.
 
SUNDAY, JANUARY 21, 2024: 
2:57 AM: Officer Orozco responded to the 5700 block of Thornton Avenue for a report of an unwanted customer causing a disturbance and threatening people. Officers arrived on scene and contacted a 65-year-old unsheltered male and detained him. During the investigation, the suspect spat on an officer. He was placed under arrest for battering a peace officer and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:31 AM: Officer Jackman located an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the area of Jarvis Avenue and Newark Boulevard.
 
1:09 PM: Officer Williams arrested a 39-year-old male out of Fremont after he threw a brick from a second story balcony causing damage to a vehicle’s windshield. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail. 
 
4:05 PM: Officer Lara contacted a 27-year-old male on Thornton Avenue and arrested him for a misdemeanor warrant. He was issued a citation and released on scene.
 
5:35 PM: Officer Herrera investigated a “grab and run” type theft from a business on Newpark Mall Road.
 
7:19 PM: Officer Herrera investigated a report of stolen credit cards from victim’s residence. The victim also reported that she was a victim of identity theft.
