Suspect Attempts to Steal a Dog and Points a Gun at the Dog Owner when Confronted

INCIDENT: P.C. 245(A)(1)- Assault with a Deadly Weapon
LOCATION: 13000 block of Avenal Street, Victorville
SUSPECT(S): Maxwell Nelson, 26-year-old resident of Phelan
SUMMARY: On Monday, January 23, 2024, at approximately 12:08 a.m., deputies received a call for service on the 13000 block of Avenal Street in Victorville, in reference to an unknown male waving a pistol on the property and attempting to steal a dog.
Upon arrival, deputies located the male suspect, who was identified as Maxwell Nelson, 26-year-old of Phelan. Deputies learned Nelson attempted to take a dog belonging to the resident of the house. The dog owner confronted Nelson. He refused to give the dog back and pointed a gun at the owner during a verbal dispute.
Maxwell Nelson was arrested for P.C. 245(A)(1)- Assault with a Deadly Weapon and booked at High Desert Detention Center. He is currently being held in lieu of $140,000.00 bail.
