Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Robbery Suspects and Locating Vehicle

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé requests the public’s help with identifying two suspects, who robbed a livery driver on January 9, 2024.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:10 a.m. when the driver was dispatched to the 300 block of New York Avenue to pick up a customer. After he arrived, the driver helped the customer put her suitcase in his truck while she returned to her residence to get another piece of
luggage.

As he loaded his trunk, two male suspects with thin builds approached him from behind wearing ski masks and black clothing. The first suspect, who was wearing sneakers, stuck what the driver believed to be a handgun in the right side of his body. Both men yelled at him, demanding that he give them his money.

A struggle ensued with the first suspect while the second suspect went into his pockets, taking an iPhone, $180, a wallet containing a debit and credit card, a driver’s license, and a work permit.

The suspects fled on New York Avenue towards Lang Street. A dark gray colored SUV Kia Sportage was captured on surveillance video in the area.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the suspects and vehicle to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward. Anonymous
