TEST MESSAGE / REED CITY WEATHER PREPAREDNESS

THIS IS A TEST MESSAGE / REED CITY SIREN TEST
The City of Reed City conducts a monthly test of it's outdoor warning siren the 1st Saturday of each month @ approximately 1pm (except in cases where a Severe Watch or Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service).  To support this test, Osceola County Emergency Management issues a city - targeted Nixle message to support information and preparedness.

PREPARE AHEAD FOR SEVERE WEATHER
If a severe weather incident happens - Do you have a plan? Where will you go? What will you do? Are you familiar with the alert systems in your area?  How will you communicate?  Michigan's MIREADY website has important information that can help your family or business prepare for severe weather and other hazards

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WEATHER WATCHES & WARNINGS
Severe Thunderstorm Watch means Be Prepared!  Severe thunderstorms are possible in and near the watch area. Stay informed and be ready to act if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued. The watch area is typically large, covering numerous counties or even states.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning means Take Action!  Severe weather has been reported by spotters or indicated by radar. Warnings indicate imminent danger to life and property. Take shelter in a substantial building. Get out of mobile homes that can blow over in high winds. Warnings typically encompass a much smaller area (around the size of a city or small county) that may be impacted by a large hail or damaging wind identified by an NWS forecaster on radar or by a trained spotter/law enforcement who is watching the storm.

During Severe Weather Watches & Warnings monitor community alerting systems for advanced emergency notification.  In Osceola County, our primary warning system is Nixle which re-broadcasts notifications to cell phones and/or email to those that are signed up.  Reed City's outdoor warning siren also provides notification to outdoor populations within approximately 1 mile of the firestation (523 Morse St).
