Repairs on sewer pumps continuing; preparations for next storm system underway

Repairs continued overnight on the second sewer pump. The entire pump is being rebuilt and a few additional parts are being obtained this morning.  The first pump continues to operate normally.  As the rebuilt second pump will be almost entirely new, once operational, the amount of time needed for testing is reduced to a few hours before we can lift the drain use advisory. For now, the impacted County Club Area is advised to continue with limited water use for flushing and handwashing. Free showers remain available at the Community Center, 1845 Strand Way to 7 pm.

Restoring this service has been our highest priority and we thank you for your patience. We recognize there has been a great deal of uncertainty as to timing. We are working our hardest to troubleshoot and get the systems fully operational.

Replacement parts for the three stormwater parts were installed and the initial test run was successful. Crews are running additional tests today.

The City is continuously monitoring the next storm system that is predicted to arrive later next week. Citywide, crews are sweeping streets and cleaning storm inlets. We are building contingency plans for stormwater and sewer pumps in the County Club area.

Dumpsters have been placed around the City for the community’s free use.  Please see a list of locations on the City’s website.

Sandbags are being placed at six locations around the City by noon today.  Two new locations: 2nd and A by Vernetti Field and by Rotary Park Downtown will be stocked in addition to 4th and Alameda, 1st and Alameda, Ocean/Sunset Park and the Cays Park parking lot.

We will continue to provide updates.
