Shortly before 4:00 a.m., today, January 27, 2024, deputies were called to a home on Wright Place, Hilton Head Island for a gunshot victim.  When they arrived, they found a 55-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. 

The man was treated by emergency services and transported to a Savannah area hospital.

Deputies learned that the man, who lives on Wright Place, heard a noise outside his home shortly before he was shot.  He opened the door to see what the commotion was and found two people near his vehicles that were parked in the driveway.  One of the subjects then presented a gun and shot the homeowner before running away.   
 
Investigators have discovered that at least five people were walking in the Wright Place area pulling on car doors shortly before the shooting.  Several car break-ins have been reported by residents this morning.

Investigators are asking for anyone living in the north end area of Hilton Head Island who may have exterior video systems to check any footage that may have been captured during the night leading up to and just after the shooting.  Investigators are looking for any suspicious people who may be walking and/or pulling on car doors in addition to any vehicles that may be observed traveling at high speeds or in a reckless manner just after the shooting.
