Early Sunday morning on January 28, 2024 at approximately 6:33 AM. The Simi Valley Police Department responded to a residence in the 1200 block of Newman St. reference a weapon in progress call. The residents stated there was an unknown subject in their backyard and when one of them confronted the subject. The suspect produced a firearm and pointed the gun at one of residents. The suspect fled the location shortly after.
Officers on scene quickly contained the area and searched for the outstanding suspect. As the officers searched the area, another resident from the 1000 block of Hillview Ln. called the Simi Valley Police Department and reported a trespass of a subject that matched the initial suspect’s description. Officers responded to the area, located the suspect, and detained him.
Upon further investigation and calls from surrounding residents, it appeared that the suspect was prowling in the area and attempted to steal two vehicles in the neighborhood and stole property from a third vehicle. Officers searched the neighborhood and located stolen property but did not locate the firearm.
The suspect was identified as 38 year old Kevin Dessaint, a resident of Sylmar, CA. The suspect was booked at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Pre-Trial Detention Facility for assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of attempting to steal a vehicle, and theft from a vehicle.
