Wilmington Police have arrested a man on gun and drug charges.
Beginning in January, members of the Safe Streets Task Force have been conducting an investigation into 22-year-old Malik Purnell for illegal firearm possession, and drug sales. On January 27, at approximately 5:20 p.m., officers observed Purnell in the 200 block of West 29th Street. Officers made contact with Purnell, who was taken into custody without incident and found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun, and 4 grams of marijuana.
Purnell has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Receiving a Stolen Firearm
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $45,000 cash-only bail.
