Wilmington Police have arrested a man on burglary charges in connection with Monday morning’s shooting incident.
 
On Monday at approximately 3:07 a.m., police were dispatched to the 500 block of East 6th Street in reference to a shooting that had occurred. Police located a 27-year-old male gunshot victim, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
 
The case was assigned to Detective Justin Wilkers of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, it was determined that the victim was shot by a resident of the home during the commission of a burglary at that location.
 
That subject, Ismael Jules-Abotchi, has been charged with the following offenses:

• Burglary (First Degree)
• Criminal Mischief Under $1,000

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $11,000 cash-only bail. He was also found to be wanted out of Tennessee.
 
Following the investigation into this incident, and in collaboration with the Delaware Department of Justice, it has been determined that the resident will not be charged in connection with this incident due to the fact that Jules-Abotchi was actively breaking into the residence at the time he was shot.
