Barricaded suspect incident in 3600 block of Fleetwood has been resolved.

DETAILS: On February 1, 2024, at 8:23 AM, officers were sent to the 4700 block of S. Virginia on a report of a kidnapping. Officers located the victim who had been held overnight by a male suspect. The suspect was reported to have fled on foot and officers began to search the area. A short time later, an Amarillo police officer located the suspect walking on Overlook St. near Paramount Park. Contact with the suspect was attempted and there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and an officer. The suspect again fled on foot into an alley in the 3600 block of Fleetwood. The suspect entered a backyard and made his way into a storm cellar where he barricaded. Additional shots were heard being fired by the suspect after he barricaded himself. Negotiators attempted contact for an extended period utilizing the police robot and PA. Officers were ultimately sent into the space and found the suspect, Billy Trent Day, 31 y/o male, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers were injured during this event. Next of kin has been notified. This case is being investigated by the Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit.
