INCIDENT: Possession of a Controlled Substance While Armed, Felon in Possession of a Controlled Substance While Armed, Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell
LOCATION: Amargosa Road/ Palmetto Way, Hesperia
SUSPECT(S): David Cody Leff, 34-year-old, Transient, Hesperia
SUMMARY: On January 31, 2024, at about 9:02 a.m., Deputy Morales, Deputy Sanchez, and Deputy Gray conducted a drug related investigation in the area of Amargosa Road and Palmetto Way in the city of Hesperia.
During the investigation, deputies made contact with multiple subjects in an established transient encampment. Deputies conducted a safety sweep and observed a large amount of narcotics and illegal firearms in plain sight. San Bernardino County Probation K9 unit arrived on scene and K9 Izzie as well as K9 Bane conducted a thorough search of the tent. K9 Izzie and K9 Bane located 64 controlled substance prescription pills, 11 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, 39 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 6 grams of suspected fentanyl, 2 ghost firearms, 1 revolver, 1 long rifle pistol, 1 rifle, 1 shotgun and 1 flair gun.
The suspect, David Leff, a 34-year-old transient of Hesperia, was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for HS11370.1(A)-Possession of a Controlled Substance While Armed, PC29800(A)(1)- Felon in Possession of a Controlled Substance While Armed, HS 11351-Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell.
