Crime Alert Bulletin Covering the Week of January 22-28, 2024
When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.
Robberies
There was one robbery during the past week.
On Wednesday, 01-24-24, at approximately 2:35 a.m., officers were dispatched to Hillside Boulevard and Bismark Street on a report of a robbery. The victim stated while standing on the corner, the suspect approached him and asked for money. The victim was in fear and gave the suspect $200. The suspect then walked away northbound on Hillside Boulevard. The victim described the suspect as a Black male, 25 years old, 5’10” tall, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black ski mask, and blue jeans. This investigation is continuing.
Residential Burglaries
There was one residential burglary and one attempted residential burglary during the past week.
On Monday, 01-22-24, at approximately 4:36 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of King Drive on a report of a residential burglary. A victim stated that she heard her dog bark in the living room and also heard what sounded like someone opening her front door, which was unlocked. The door opened and the victim saw a suspect inside her living room pacing back and forth. The victim screamed in fear, and the suspect quickly left the apartment. Officers were able to stop the suspect near the front of the apartment complex. The victim identified the suspect. The suspect, a 67-year-old Oakland resident, was arrested and booked into jail for residential burglary.
On Friday, 01-26-24, at approximately 9:45 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Bay Ridge Drive on a report of a burglary. The residents stated that four unknown suspects wearing ski masks attempted to open the inside garage door that leads to the house with a crowbar and then fled.
Commercial Burglaries
There were four commercial burglaries and one attempted commercial burglary during the past week.
On Wednesday, 01-24-24, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:27 a.m., a suspect entered Planet Fitness on Junipero Serra Boulevard and broke into a locker. The suspect took car keys, a jacket, and a wallet containing credit cards and $250.
On Thursday, 01-25-24, between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., suspect(s) entered Planet Fitness on Junipero Serra Boulevard and broke into a locker. The suspect(s) took $80. **Online report.
On Saturday, 01-27-24, between 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., a suspect entered Planet Fitness on Junipero Serra Boulevard and broke into a locker. The suspect took a wallet containing credit cards, debit cards, $300, a CA identification card, and a Costco card. The victim’s debit card was attempted to be used at a retailer in Dublin. This investigation is continuing.
On Saturday, 01-27-24, between 9:20 a.m. and 10:25 a.m., suspect(s) entered Planet Fitness on Junipero Serra Boulevard and broke into a locker. The suspect(s) took an unknown amount of cash and credit cards from a wallet. **Online report.
Between Saturday, 01-27-24, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, 01-28-24, at 7:30 p.m., Kimco Properties at the Westlake Shopping Center was the victim of an attempted commercial burglary. The security guard stated that an unknown suspect attempted to pry several office doors to a medical/dental building but was not able to gain entry.
Vehicle Burglaries
There were three vehicle burglaries during the past week.
- 100 block of Santa Paula Drive—a nuclear density gauge was taken from a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. The truck bed lock may have been left unlocked. Occurred between 8:00 p.m. on 01-22-24 and 7:00 a.m. on 01-23-24. **Online report.
- Parking garage on the 1900 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard—a backpack containing a camera, lenses, and a microphone was taken from a 2023 Ford Explorer. The rear passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 01-25-24 between 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
- Wellington Avenue and Irvington Street—Milwaukee tools were taken from a 2002 Toyota Tundra. Both rear side windows were shattered. Occurred on 01-25-24 at approximately 8:01 p.m.
Stolen Vehicles
There were eight stolen vehicles and one attempted stolen vehicle during the past week. Five vehicles were recovered.
- Unit block of Fairview Avenue—a 2017 Infiniti Q60. Occurred between 3:50 p.m. on 01-22-24 and 5:55 a.m. on 01-23-24. **Recovered by Oakland PD on 01-30-24.
- 500 block of Westmoor Avenue—a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro. Occurred on 01-23-24 between 5:22 a.m. and 5:40 a.m.
- Unit block of Larkspur Avenue—a 2003 Cadillac Escalade. Occurred on 01-23-24 between 1:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. **Recovered by Oakland PD on 01-25-24.
- 100 block of West Moltke Street—a 2014 Infiniti Q60. Occurred between 10:00 p.m. on 01-23-24 and 5:00 a.m. on 01-24-24.
- 200 block of Palmcrest Avenue—a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Occurred on 01-24-24 between 4:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. **Recovered by Oakland PD on 01-24-24.
- Southgate Avenue and Lake Merced Boulevard—a 2015 Lexus IS350. Occurred between 7:00 p.m. on 01-27-24 and 9:30 a.m. on 01-28-24. **Recovered by Stockton PD on 01-29-24.
- 300 block of East Market Street—a 2008 Infiniti G35. Occurred on 01-28-24 between 1:00 a.m. and 11:59 a.m. **Recovered by registered owner in Oakland on 01-28-24.
- Hoffman Street and Sylvan Street—a 2010 Ford Mustang. Occurred between 7:45 p.m. on 01-28-24 and 5:00 a.m. on 01-29-24.
- Unit block of Poncetta Drive—an attempted theft of a 2002 Honda Civic. Occurred between 4:00 p.m. on 01-25-24 and 4:00 p.m. on 01-26-24.
Miscellaneous
- There were 154 cases taken.
- There were 9 domestic disturbance cases reported.
- There were 4 cases involving an involuntary psychiatric hold.
- There were 14 malicious mischief/vandalism cases reported.
- There were 5 cases for public intoxication.
- There was 1 hit-and-run collision reported.
- There were 5 narcotics-related cases taken.
