On November 18th,2023 the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting off Chase High Rd. The victim, Robert Nelon, was shot in the abdomen and was transported to the hospital. Several days later Nelon died because of his injuries.
The case was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division and a thorough investigation began. After a lengthy investigation and multiple interviews, the case was presented to a Grand Jury in Rutherford County on January 22nd,2024 and a true bill of indictment was issued for William Arthur Steele for 2nd Degree Murder.
On February 1st,2024 William Arthur Steele (35) of Spartanburg, SC turned himself in at the Rutherford County Detention Center. Steele received a $600,000 secured bond. Steele’s booking photo is attached to this message.
