E-Scooter Laws

Electric scooters or e-scooters are motorized devices with two wheels, handlebars and a floorboard that you stand on.  Understanding e-scooter laws is essential for riders to know and important to improve rider safety. 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Minor’s under 18 must wear a helmet.
  • E-scooters must follow the same rules of the road a vehicle does.
  • Maximum speed for e-scooter is 15 MPH.
  • Must use bike lane or path.
  • Must walk scooter in crosswalk.
  • Must dismount and use crosswalk when making a left-hand turn.
  • No passengers allowed.
  • No riding under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
As an e-scooter rider stay alert and be aware of your surroundings.  Be visible and predictable.  Obey all traffic laws and have a safe ride.
