Advisory

There is no active shooter situation at Vanden High School

At around 8:25 am this morning, Dispatch received a report from an unknown caller stating that an individual on Vanden High School’s campus had a gun. Police immediately responded and notified administrators, who placed the school on lockdown. Two neighboring schools were also put on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.

The school was quickly cleared and it was determined that this was more than likely a swatting situation - wherein an individual makes a prank call to emergency services in the hope that said call will result in a large police response (hence the name “SWATting).

The lockdown at Vanden High School was lifted at approximately 9:45 am. At no time was there an active shooter situation, nor any credible threat to students or staff.

Several students were questioned in connection with the call but, as of yet, no one has been apprehended. The investigation remains ongoing.
