Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Two Suspects
 
Proactive policing leads to arrests for possession of a firearm and drugs. 
 
San Mateo, CA – On February 2, 2024, at 2:50 a.m., San Mateo Police Officers were conducting proactive enforcement of traffic violations.  An officer made a traffic enforcement stop on a silver BWM traveling south on Highway 101.       
 
As the officer was speaking to the driver, Jose Cruz Narvaez, the officer saw a firearm wedged between the driver seat and the center console of the car.  Cruz Narvaez and the passenger of the car, Carlos Lopez Ramirez, were removed from the vehicle without incident.  The firearm was removed from the car.  The firearm was a 9mm pistol and was loaded.    
 
A search of the vehicle was done.  Narcotics were found inside the car in different locations.  Cruz Narvaez was also in possession of narcotics.  Cruz Narvaez was arrested for multiple charges including possession of a loaded firearm and possession of narcotics.  Lopez Ramirez was arrested for possession of narcotics.  Both Cruz Narvaez and Lopez Ramirez were transported to San Mateo County Jail.

CHARGES:
11370.1(a) HS- Possession of a controlled substance while armed, 25400(a)(1) PC- Carry concealed weapon in vehicle, 25850(a) PC- Carry loaded firearm in public, 11350(a) HS- Possession of a narcotic, 11377(a) HS- Possession of a controlled substance. 
 
ARRESTED
Carlos Lopez Ramirez, 31-year-old San Mateo resident.
CHARGES:
11350(a) HS- Possession of a narcotic.
