2 Overnight Residential Burglary Attempts - Lincoln Avenue East and Crane Parkway; February 3rd, 2024

On February 3rd, 2024 at approximately 4:51 AM, the Cranford Police Department responded to a Crane Parkway home on the report of an attemped residential burglary after-the-fact.  The homeowner reported that after hearing their dog bark, they immediately looked outside and observed two suspects walking out of their rear yard.  Subsequently, the homeowner reviewed their home surveillance cameras and observed a dark sedan pull up to their home at approximately 4:39 AM.  One suspect wearing all black clothing and a mask attempted to open the front door, while a second suspect walked to the rear of the home with what appeared to be a crowbar in their hand.  It is believed that the barking dogs startled the suspects, as no entry was made into the home.

Later on this same date, Cranford Police responded to a second call regarding an attempted residential burglary on the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue East.  According to the victim, while reviewing their surveillance footage, they observed that two males arrived at their home at approximately 04:53 AM and walked up to the locked front door.  One appeared to have a crowbar in their hands.  After not gaining entry through the front locked door, the suspects appeared to walk to the rear of this residence, but did not gain entry into the victim's home.

Responding officers immediately determined that in both cases, the victims had multiple BMW's parked on their properties at the time of the attempted burglaries.

The Cranford Police Department and other surrounding police agencies within Union County has seen an uptick in BMW's being targeted by vehicle thieves.  As high-end vehicles remain targeted by thieves during these incidents, residents are encouraged to be vigilant in locking not only their vehicles, but also ensuring that their homes are secured during overnight hours.  Please continue to remove keyfobs from your vehicles when they are parked.  Also, check that your security cameras are operational.
