Water service has now been restored for affected customers in Marion. A System Pressure Advisory remains in effect.
5:30 p.m. Update:
The City of Marion has restored water service for affected customers impacted by today's outage. As a reminder, the System Pressue Advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
System Pressure Advisory:
Affected Customers: City of Marion Water System Customers located 221 North Business, Westwood Chateau, Garden Creek Road, Mountain Street, and Hankins Road.
The water consumers of the City of Marion Water System, in McDowell County, are experiencing periods of low pressure and outages in the distribution system due to water main break. Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system. Therefore, the NC Division of Water Resources advises that when water is restored consumers boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation) or use bottled water. Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water. This advisory remains in effect until further written notification is issued.
