ROAD CLOSURES: Avoid Unnecessary Travel, If Possible

A Flood Warning is in effect through 9:30AM on Monday (2/5) per the National Weather Service. A Wind Advisory is also in effect until 10PM this evening. Flooding is occurring within lower lying areas of Novato, caused by excessive rainfall. 

Stay home and avoid unnecessary travel if possible. 

CURRENT ROAD CLOSURES: 

  • Area of Cherry St/Armstrong Ave- including both entrances to mobile home park
  • Lauren Ave at South Novato Blvd 
  • Garden Ct at South Novato Blvd 
  • Joan Ave at South Novato Blvd 
  • Lamont Ave at Alice St 
South Novato Blvd. is OPEN.

SANDBAGS: 

The City of Novato provides free self-serve sandbags and sand at 550 Davidson Ave. Residents should bring their own shovels and gloves. The limit is 10 sandbags per household, first come first serve. For more information: novato.org/sandbags.

STORM SAFETY: 

During the storm, make sure to: 

  • Remain at home and avoid driving, if possible.
  • Keep away from downed or hanging power lines. Consider all downed lines to be energized.
  • Have batteries ready to go for flashlights, radios and other devices.
  • Avoid standing water. NEVER drive or walk in flooded areas.
  • If you need to drive in storm, remember to “turn around, don't drown”, when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
  • Keep away from emergency vehicles and take alternate roads.
  • Stop at all intersections where the traffic lights or power is out. Treat these intersections as a 4 way stop.

FLOODING: 

Per the National Weather Service, flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas. *Please note: High Tide will occur at 9PM this evening 2/4 and may cause additional flooding.
