Police Arrest Three Adults, Four Juveniles Following Two Robberies and Multi-Jurisdiction Pursuit

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé reports the arrest of three adults and four juveniles following two robberies and a multi-jurisdiction pursuit that occurred on Saturday, February 3, 2024.

At approximately 8 a.m., Police responded to Clifton Avenue near Treadwell Street on a call that a female victim was robbed at gunpoint by a group of five to seven Black males, who were all wearing dark clothing and ski masks. The suspects fled in a gray 2019 Hyundai Sonata that had been reported stolen out of Newark on February 3, 2024.

At 8:20 a.m., a group of Black males riding in the gray Hyundai Sonata and fitting the description of the suspects in the earlier robbery drove past a woman walking in the area of Grafton Avenue and Manchester Avenue. Three suspects exited the vehicle and robbed the victim at gunpoint before fleeing in the stolen vehicle.
Police observed the vehicle at Bergen Street and Avon Avenue and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop. The driver refused to pull over and a pursuit ensued onto Route 78 West. The Newark Police helicopter was deployed as part of this pursuit.

The suspects abandoned the vehicle, fleeing on foot, at Route 78 and Exit 26. Members of the NJ State Police and Newark Police, with assistance from Tewksbury Police and Readington Police, apprehended each of the suspects.

Ian Cisse, 19, of Secaucus, and Tyler A. Walker, 18, and Jahaad J. Lewis, 18, both of Newark, each face charges of robbery, conspiracy, weapon possession, employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime, criminal restraint, and child endangerment.

Four male juveniles, including a 17-year-old, a 16-year-old, and two 13-year-olds, each from Newark, face charges of robbery, conspiracy, weapon possession, possession of a firearm by minors, criminal restraint, and child endangerment.

These charges are merely accusations. This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. #newarknj #publicsafety #police #community #partnership #newjersey #cops #tips #CrimeStoppers
