LOCATION: 20600 Block of Waalew Road, Apple Valley, CA
SUSPECT(S): Clint Griffith, 51-year-old Male Resident of Apple Valley
VICTIM 1: Sommer Kelly, 40-year-old Female Resident of Apple Valley (Deceased)
VICTIM 2: 18-year-old Female Resident of Apple Valley
UPDATE: On Sunday, February 4, 2024, investigators were notified Clint Griffith was the suspect in a carjacking in Barstow. During the incident, Griffith shot himself and sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He is currently hospitalized and in critical condition.
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at about 12:17 a.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Station responded to a residence in the 20600 block of Waalew Road, for the report of shots heard. When deputies arrived, they located Sommer Kelly, who suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Kelly’s daughter was also found at the location with multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail responded and assumed the investigation. Through the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Clint Edward Griffith. Griffith fled the scene before deputies arrived and his whereabouts are unknown. An arrest warrant has been issued for Griffith’s arrest.
