SUMMARY: On Friday, February 2, 2024, at approximately 10:46 p.m., Deputy J. Guzman observed a white Dodge van traveling at approximately 80 mph in a 55-mph zone. As Deputy Guzman attempted to catch up to the vehicle, the driver, later identified as James Patrick Adamson III, turned North on Huff Road and turned off all the vehicle lights. Deputy Guzman turned on his emergency lights and siren, but Adamson III did not yield and continued North on Huff Road, driving at high rates of speed with complete disregard for public safety.
During the pursuit, Deputy Guzman saw the rear red break lights of the suspect vehicle turn on and then the vehicle came to a complete stop. Deputy Guzman stopped his vehicle, but before he could exit his vehicle Adamson III rapidly accelerated and travelled in reverse at a high rate of speed directly towards his patrol vehicle. Adamson III’s vehicle collided with the patrol vehicle, and then he rapidly accelerated, driving forward on to a private property and then continued through the property into the open desert. Deputy Guzman located the suspect vehicle a short time later, but it was unoccupied. California Highway Patrol helicopter (H80) arrived on scene and located the two suspects James Patrick Adamson III and a passenger in his vehicle, Kaleigh Anne Morgan, hiding on a nearby property. The vehicle Adamson III was driving was confirmed stolen out of the city of Ontario.
James Patrick Adamson III was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, evading a peace officer, possession of stolen property, and warrants. Kaleigh Morgan was arrested for accessory after the fact and warrants. Both are being held at the High Desert Detention Center.
