*UPD* - #LASD Homicide Investigators Responded to a Deputy Involved Shooting Investigation, 43500 block of 20th Street W, #Lancaster
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy involved shooting of a male adult.
Deputies from Lancaster Sheriff’s Station responded to the 43500 block of 20th Street West, in the city of Lancaster, regarding a business disturbance call.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at approximately 9:28 AM.
When the responding deputies arrived on scene, they observed the male suspect standing outside the business entrance with two machetes in his backpack. As the deputies attempted to speak with him and calm him down, the suspect became agitated and grabbed both machetes in his hands. As the suspect entered the grocery store, deputies gave the suspect numerous commands to drop his weapons, but he refused. Once inside the business, deputies deployed less lethal options but were unsuccessful in stopping and disarming the suspect. The suspect then suddenly charged the deputies and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
There were three deputy shooters and the suspect was described as a White male 35-40 years of age.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
Investigators discovered the suspect had recently stabbed an employee at a local gas station earlier in the day. That victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Two machetes were recovered at the scene.
No other people were injured during the incident.
There are no outstanding suspects.
There’s no additional information available at this time.

These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General who sends a representative to the incident scene and provides independent oversight throughout the investigative process.
