Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection with a 2023 shooting incident.
On October 18, 2023, at approximately 2:08 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 900 block of Kirkwood Street, in reference to a shooting incident that occurred inside of a residence. Upon arrival, police located a 77-year-old male gunshot victim, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
The case was assigned to Detective John O’Connor Jr. of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective O’Connor identified 35-year-old Donte Wright as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. On November 2, 2023, Wright was taken into custody in Gaithersburg, Maryland. On January 31, 2024, Wright was extradited to Delaware.
Wright has been charged with the following offenses:
- Attempted Murder (First Degree)
- Robbery (First Degree)
- Assault (First Degree)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
- Burglary (First Degree)
- Assault (Second Degree)
- Suffocation
- Crime Against a Vulnerable Adult
- Unlawful Imprisonment
- Conspiracy (Second Degree)
- Criminal Mischief Over $1,000
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $283,000 cash-only bail.
