Winter Storm Watch until 09:00AM Saturday

...POTENTIALLY IMPACTFUL SNOW FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND... .A gale force front will bring widespread moderate to heavy precipitation to the northern panhandle and NE gulf coast beginning Friday morning and lasting into Saturday. With cold air in place, precipitation is expected to start as snow before gradually transitioning to a mix as the surface front turns winds more southerly and brings up surface temperatures. Any stalling of the surface front could lead to a later transition to mixed precipitation, resulting in greater storm total snow accumulation. An earlier wind shift and warm up would result in an earlier change to rain. Stay tuned for the latest forecast information on this developing system.

* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 12 inches possible.

* WHERE...Haines and Juneau Boroughs.

* WHEN...From Friday morning through Saturday morning.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Light snow will begin falling Friday morning with rates picking up into the afternoon hours. Greatest snowfall rates are expected Friday afternoon and evening. A transition to mixed precipitation is likely Friday night near sea level.

* AFFECTED AREAS: HAINES BOROUGH AND KLUKWAN ... CITY AND BOROUGH OF JUNEAU
