Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested
 
Man arrested the day after he robbed a bank.
 
San Mateo, CA – On February 8, 2024, San Mateo Police Department arrested Stephan Kevorkian for bank robbery.  Kevorkian is the suspect of a bank robbery that occurred on February 7, and an attempted bank robbery on occurred on February 6.   
 
On February 6 at 12:14 p.m., San Mateo Police Department received a report of an attempted bank robbery.  The suspect entered the bank, located on the 300 block of South El Camino Real, and passed a note to a bank teller demanding money.  After a short interaction the suspect left the bank with no money. 
 
The Criminal Investigation Bureau took over the investigation.  Detectives found evidence at the scene of the crime and identified a potential suspect.    
 
On February 7, as detectives continued to investigate the crime, San Mateo Police Department received another report of a bank robbery that occurred on the 400 block of South El Camino Real.  The suspect in this bank robbery matched the description of the previous attempted robbery. 
 
Detectives were able to identify the suspect in both incidents as Stephan Kevorkian.  On February 8, Kevorkian was placed under arrest for robbery and attempted robbery.  Kevorkian was transported to San Mateo County Jail. 
 
We need the community’s support in reporting crimes and being a good witness.  If you witness a crime, contact police immediately.  Try to remain as calm as possible and do your best to answer questions on the phone.  Remember details such as the suspect’s appearance, clothing, any distinguishing features, and which direction they flee. Once the police arrive at the scene, cooperate fully, and provide the officers with all the information you have.  Your observations can greatly assist law enforcement in their investigation.

212.5(c) PC- Second degree robbery, 664/212.5(c) PC- Attempted second degree robbery.
