Today's 4.6 earthquake is a reminder to prepare.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 4.6 earthquake struck approximately eight miles northwest of Malibu at 1:47 p.m. today. There were no reports of injuries or major damage in Simi Valley.
Today's earthquake is an excellent reminder to review your emergency preparedness. Visit www.simivalley.org/departments/police-department/emergency-services/my-emergency-plan for tips and templates to create a preparedness and communication plan.
Sign up for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training to learn basic disaster response skills, such as extinguishing small fires, light search and rescue, team organization, and medical dos and don'ts in a disaster.
CERT is a perfect "fit" for people who are interested in serving our community by assisting their family and neighbors during emergencies or other disaster situations. Students will learn how to build an emergency supply kit and what types of supplies are necessary for a true emergency.
The City of Simi Valley Office of Emergency Services will be hosting a CERT Training taught by the Ventura County Fire Department starting on Wednesday March 13, 2024. And for the first time, Simi Valley will also be hosting CERT in Spanish beginning Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in partnership with the Cities of Moorpark and Thousand Oaks.
