The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Hudson County including Hoboken from late tonight into tomorrow afternoon. Heavy snow is possible with total accumulations of 5 to 8 inches possible. Total accumulations will be dependent on when rain turns to snow, which the NWS predicts will be around daybreak tomorrow. Winds could gust as high as 40 miles per hour.  

"The City of Hoboken is actively preparing for a substantial snowstorm tomorrow," said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. "Due to the forecast, I strongly encourage residents to exercise caution and limit travel, if at all possible, especially during the Tuesday commuting times. Thank you in advance to all of our emergency personnel who will be working around the clock to keep everyone safe."

Parking to be prohibited on Emergency Snow Routes early Tuesday morning

Snow emergency routes will be enforced as early as 6 a.m. tomorrow and are dependent on snow accumulation. Vehicles parked on snow emergency routes, when the streets are snow covered, are subject to ticketing and towing. This is necessary to allow emergency vehicles to move throughout Hoboken for the safety and welfare of all residents.     

Emergency snow routes in Hoboken are labeled with street signs that read “No Parking When Road Is Snow Covered.” A map of emergency snow routes is available on the City website: www.hobokennj.gov/snow.  

• 4th Street – South Side – River St. to Jackson St.
• Willow Avenue West Side – Observer Hwy. to 11th St.  (County Road)
• 3rd Street – North Side – Jackson St. to River St.  
• 9th Street – North Side – Jackson St. to Castle Point Ter.  
• 5th Street- South Side – Clinton St. to River St. 
• Washington Street (Both Sides)  
• Observer Highway – (Both Sides) Henderson St. to Hudson St.  (County Road) 
• 13th Street – North Side – Washington St. to Madison St.  
• 13th Street – South Side – Washington St. to Hudson St.  

Snow emergency routes will remain in place until after the snowfall ceases, and the streets are plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic. 

Street cleaning suspended Tuesday; Waste collection scheduled as normal  

Street cleaning has been suspended for tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 13, and will resume Wednesday, Feb. 14. All other parking regulations will remain in effect.   

Waste collection will occur as scheduled. 

Discounted Garage Parking Available 

Due to the predicted storm, a special rate of $5 per 24-hour period is being offered at Garages B (28 2nd St.), Garages D (215 Hudson St.), and the Midtown Garage (371 4th St.) for residents with Resident On-Street Parking Permits or Temporary Parking Permits. Discounted parking begins tonight, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. and ends tomorrow, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.   

Please note, garages tend to fill quickly as space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Regular rates apply at other times.   

Residents who have a Resident On-street Parking Permit or Temporary Parking Permit placard are reminded that overnight parking (6 p.m. to 8 a.m.) is available at a rate of $5 in Garages B, D, and Midtown every day of the year.  

Keep Sidewalks and Curb Ramps Clear 

While the City's Department of Parks, Recreation, & Public Works will salt and plow streets, if necessary, property owners and occupants are reminded that they have six (6) hours after the completion of a storm to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property, along with adjoining curb ramps or curb cuts.    

Residents are urged to assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing snow from their properties. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto streets or onto fire hydrants.   

The City performs proactive inspections and relies on citizen complaints to help identify property owners that are not meeting sidewalk safety requirements. While the majority of property owners comply with the safety regulations, the City will issue fines to those who do not keep sidewalks clear.

Secure Loose Objects

Wind gusts of up to 40 MPH are predicted.  Residents should secure all loose objects outside or bring them inside, especially on balconies. Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, resulting in power outages.
