INCIDENT: PC 215: CARJACKING
LOCATION: Bank of America, 14218 US Hwy 395, Adelanto
SUSPECT: Jessi Betts, 21 years-old, resident of Adelanto
SUMMARY: On Sunday, February 11, 2024, Deputy A. Schwingel was conducting an area check at Bank of America when he witnessed a female adult, later identified as Jessi Betts, enter the driver’s seat of a vehicle that did not belong to her.
The owner tried to pull Betts out of his vehicle but she shut the door of the car, shutting his arm inside and trapping him against the car. Betts then accelerated the vehicle at a high rate of speed through the parking lot and over the curb, dragging the victim. Betts stopped when the vehicle collided with a fire hydrant and fence.
Betts exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. When Deputy Schwingel caught up to Betts, she threw herself on to the ground and started repeatedly slamming her head onto the cement. Deputy Schwingel detained Betts and attempted to stop her from hurting herself. Medical personnel responded and rendered aid to Betts and the victim. A warrant was authored for Betts’ arrest, to be served at the time of her release from the hospital.
