A National Weather Service (NWS) Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Hudson County including Hoboken until 6 p.m. tonight. A coastal flood advisory will also be in effect from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. today. 

Snow accumulations of up to 8 inches are forecasted. Winds gust as high as 40 miles per hour are also forecasted. 

Emergency Snow Routes are being enforced

Snow emergency routes are being enforced. Vehicles parked on snow emergency routes, when the streets are snow covered, are subject to ticketing and towing. This is necessary to allow emergency vehicles to move throughout Hoboken for the safety and welfare of all residents.  

Emergency snow routes in Hoboken are labeled with street signs that read “No Parking When Road Is Snow Covered.” A map of emergency snow routes is available on the City website: www.hobokennj.gov/snow and are listed below:

• 4th Street – South Side – River St. to Jackson St. 
• Willow Avenue West Side – Observer Hwy. to 11th St.  (County Road) 
• 3rd Street – North Side – Jackson St. to River St.   
• 9th Street – North Side – Jackson St. to Castle Point Ter.   
• 5th Street- South Side – Clinton St. to River St.  
• Washington Street (Both Sides)   
• Observer Highway – (Both Sides) Henderson St. to Hudson St.  (County Road)  
• 13th Street – North Side – Washington St. to Madison St.   
• 13th Street – South Side – Washington St. to Hudson St.   

Snow emergency routes will remain in place until after the snowfall ceases, the streets are plowed sufficiently, and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic.

Street cleaning suspended; Hop Shuttle hours adjusted; Recreation cancelled; Waste collection will occur

Street cleaning has been suspended for today and will resume tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 14. All other parking regulations will remain in effect.

The Hop shuttle will run on an adjusted schedule today from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Afternoon service will be based on the weather.

All City youth recreation programs have been cancelled for today, Feb. 13. 

Waste collection will occur as scheduled. 

Discounted Garage Parking Available

A special discounted parking rate of $5 per 24-hour period is being offered at Garages B (28 2nd St.), Garages D (215 Hudson St.), and the Midtown Garage (371 4th St.) for residents with Resident On-Street Parking Permits or Temporary Parking Permits. Discounted parking is scheduled to end at 7 p.m. Regular rates apply at all other times.

Please note, garages tend to fill up quickly as space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

As of 9 p.m. Monday, Garage D and the Midtown Garage were filled to capacity, with Garage B having limited spaces. Garage availablity is subject to change at any time, incuding after the morning commute begins today.  

Residents who have a Resident On-street Parking Permit or Temporary Parking Permit placard are reminded that overnight parking (6 p.m. to 8 a.m.) is available at a rate of $5 in Garages B, D, and Midtown every day of the year.   

Keep Sidewalks and Curb Ramps Clear  

While the City's Department of Parks, Recreation, & Public Works will salt and plow streets, if necessary, property owners and occupants are reminded that they have six (6) hours after the completion of a storm to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property, along with adjoining curb ramps or curb cuts.  

Residents are urged to use caution when shoveling as the snow is expected to be wet and heavy. Please assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing snow from their properties. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto streets or onto fire hydrants. 

The City performs proactive inspections and relies on citizen complaints to help identify property owners that are not meeting sidewalk safety requirements. While most property owners comply with the safety regulations, the City will issue fines to those who do not keep sidewalks clear.

Secure Loose Objects 

Wind gusts of up to 40 MPH are predicted. Residents should secure all loose objects outside or bring them inside, especially on balconies. Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, resulting in power outages.
