Evening Controlled Burn on Oleander Golf Course 2/13
Please be advised that on February 13, 2024, the Jekyll Island Authority will conduct a controlled burn on small patches of land in multiple areas along Oleander Golf Course. This burn will take place in the evening and into the night from approximately 3:30 P.M. through 3:30 A.M., to better control the intensity of the burn and to better achieve the conservation objectives of doing prescribed burns. Residual smoke effects will likely linger into the early morning of February 14th.
The burn does not pose any threat to nearby homes or structures. However, please use caution in the area of Shell Road during this time.
No road closures are planned at this time. Smoke visibility will be monitored and temporary road closures may be necessary to maintain safe driving conditions. Signage will be present if a road closure takes place.
Due to unsafe conditions from both fire and smoke, residents are asked not to traverse the course during the burn window for wildlife viewing, photography, or otherwise, to minimize the risk of needing emergency medical services.
All burn plans have been approved by Georgia Forestry and will be managed and monitored by the Jekyll Island Fire Department and the JIA Conservation team.
