On February 12, 2024, at approximately 9:10 p.m., Fremont Police officers responded to a sexual assault that occurred in the area of Fremont Blvd. and Eggers Dr. A female victim told officers that she was walking by herself when the suspect approached her and pulled her to the ground. The suspect struck the victim several times before he sexually assaulted her. The suspect was not known to the victim. Prior to the suspect leaving the area, community members became aware of what had just happened and held the suspect down until police arrived.
The suspect was identified as Marvin Velasquez (27 years old, resident of Fremont). Velasquez was arrested for Penal Code 209(b)(1) – Kidnapping with intent to rape, Penal Code 289(a)(1)(a) – Sexual penetration with a foreign object, Penal Code 245(a)(4) – Assault with a deadly weapon by force likely to produce great bodily injury, and Penal Code 243(d) – Battery with serious bodily injury. Velasquez remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail and will be arraigned on February 15, 2024.
