INCIDENT TYPE: Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon x2; Suicide
OFFICER SUBMITTING RELEASE: Sgt. Carla Burr-PIO
DETAILS:
On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 6:03PM, Officers were called to the 3000 block of Mays Street on two shooting victims. When officers arrived, they learned the victims had been in their home watching TV. Another family member came out of one of the bedrooms, with a handgun, and began shooting at them. Both victims were able to get out of the house and go to a neighbor and call for help. Officers also learned there were two other family members inside the home when the shooting occurred, and they were able to get away safely without injuries. The injured family members were transported to an area hospital for their injuries. Patrol officers on scene were told by the family they thought the shooter was still inside the home. The CIRT was activated and responded to the scene. SWAT and APD Crisis Negotiators took over for patrol and continued to try to call the suspect out of the house. Once SWAT was able to get close enough, they were able to get a camera inside the home and see the subject was down in a bedroom from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. SWAT then entered the home and confirmed the subject was deceased. He is identified as Kodey Dunn, age 27. CSI and detectives from the Violent Crimes Squad were called to the scene for further investigation. The Homicide unit will conduct the suicide investigation.
