INCIDENT: CVC 20001(a), Felony Hit and Run, CVC 23153(a) Felony Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
LOCATION: 3rd Street and Yucaipa Boulevard, Yucaipa, CA 92399
SUSPECT(S): Erik Aanerud, 20-year-old resident of Benton, Arkansas
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at approximately 11:01 p.m., two female adults were walking northbound through the crosswalk at the intersection of Yucaipa Blvd., cross of 3rd Street, when they were hit by an unknown SUV type vehicle. Both females sustained significant injuries and were transported by AMR to Loma Linda University Hospital for their injuries.
Deputies on scene collected victim and witness statements and located a piece of the suspect vehicle. Deputies obtained a possible vehicle description of an older model tan Chevy Tahoe. With the assistance of the Sheriff's Aviation Unit, deputies located a vehicle with matching damage parked in the United Methodist Church parking lot near the intersection of Acacia Avenue and California Street.
While processing the suspect vehicle, Erik Aanerud was located nearby and found to be the driver of the vehicle. Aanerud was arrested for felony hit and run and felony driving under the influence of alcohol. Aanerud was transported to the West Valley Detention Center where he is currently being held on $250,000 bail.
