Wilmington Police have arrested a man on drug charges.
On February 9, at approximately 2:25 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division were in the 700 block of North Spruce Street, when they observed a motor vehicle commit a traffic violation. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop at that location and made contact with the driver – 22-year-old Marshawn Backus. Following a brief investigation, Backus was taken into custody without incident, and police recovered 737 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and $360.
Backus has been charged with the following offenses in addition to traffic violations:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver
- Possession of a Controlled Substance in Tier 1 Quantity
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was released after posting $10,200 secured bail.
