Here is an update from the Mack & McKinley incident this morning.
At approximately 7:40 am, a subject entered the Village Food Market at Mack Avenue & McKinley Avenue. The subject committed a retail fraud and when confronted by a store employee, displayed what appeared to be a handgun. The subject left the store on foot and was last seen walking eastbound down the Mack Avenue alley towards Moran Road.
Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety and other mutual aid cities immediately responded to the situation. A perimeter was set, and officers checked the area for the subject. GPF drone unit was also deployed.
Due to the proximity of Brownell Middle School (260 Chalfonte Avenue), GPF police advised the school, as a precaution, to secure and lock down the school.
The suspect was not located and is believed to have left the immediate area.
The Brownell School lockdown was lifted after a second sweep of the area.
GPF Detectives are actively searching and reviewing video of the original incident. Anyone with any information or video footage of this incident is requested to contact our detective bureau at (313)-885-2100.
