17 Cited at Berkeley DUI / Driver License Checkpoint
On February 9, 2024, the Berkeley Police Department conducted a DUI and driver license checkpoint.
The checkpoint was held at Ashby Avenue and San Pablo Avenue from 8:00 PM to 12:15 AM.
17 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, 820 drivers were contacted at the checkpoint.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
The next DUI checkpoint will be held on March 14, 2024.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
