On February 17, 2024, at 4:27 a.m., the Santa Ana Police Department received multiple calls regarding a traffic collision in the area of Orange Street and Edinger Avenue. SAPD Officers, along with Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), responded to the scene where they discovered the collision involved a vehicle and a pedestrian. OCFA pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the driver of the vehicle was traveling northbound on Orange St. at Edinger Ave. when he stopped because he believed he had driven over an object. When he exited his vehicle, the driver discovered a pedestrian was trapped underneath his vehicle. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation when police arrived.
At this time, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor. The cause of the collision remains under
investigation.
