On 02/19/2024, Amsterdam Police Department received a call about several males going door to door near Phillips St., asking about resident's National Grid bills. Officers were able to interview two subjects inquiring about their business. The subjects were representatives of PTM Solar advising residents they could save money on their National Grid bills if they provided them with information. Officers then inquired whether or not they had the proper permits to do so and at this time they could not provide the proper paperwork. They were advised to cease all further interactions and leave the area.
Upon further investigation into their intent, it was found that they were attempting to get access to the resident’s National Grid’s online sign-in information and account numbers. PTM Solar is also referred to as Arcadia Community Solar which has been reported to the Better Business Bureau for fraud across the country. It was later found that the individuals continued going door to door after Officers advised them to leave. All three subjects were later arrested for soliciting without a permit per Amsterdam City Code 171.17.
