On Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 2:25 a.m., Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) officers responded to a residence in the 3700 block of Poinciana Drive after receiving the report of a shooting. The reporting party called police to report her live-in boyfriend shot her 3-year-old son.
SCPD officers arrived on scene within minutes of the call. The victim was located inside the residence and had suffered a gunshot wound. CPR was performed but unfortunately the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
SCPD officers detained a male suspect near the residence. The suspect resisted arrest and after a brief struggle, he was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder.
The victim was identified as a 3-year-old male juvenile. The suspect is not related to the victim. A handgun was located at the scene of the shooting. There is no threat to public safety.
