INCIDENT: Residential Burglary, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
LOCATION: 5500 block of Sycamore Avenue, unincorporated Rialto
SUSPECT: Roberto Diaz, a 36-year-old male resident of Fontana
Joseph Sturm, a 43-year-old male resident of Bloomington
Unidentified female adult
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at about 3:59 p.m., Fontana deputies responded to a report of a theft in progress at a residence in the 5500 block of Sycamore Avenue, unincorporated Rialto. The first arriving deputy found a vehicle that matched the description given by the reporting party and conducted a traffic stop. Roberto Diaz, a 36-year-old male resident of Fontana, was the driver of the vehicle and was found in possession of property stolen from the residence. With the assistance of Sheriff’s Aviation and the Rialto Police Department, deputies found Joseph Sturm nearby in another vehicle. Sturm was found in possession of a trailer initially stolen from the city of Hesperia.
Through investigation, deputies determined Diaz, Sturm, and another female suspect were involved in the theft from the residence. Diaz and Sturm were arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center. The investigation to identify the female suspect is ongoing.
