El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from February 11th - February 17th.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from February 11th to February 17th.

February 11th

No major incidents to report.

February 12th

Stolen Vehicle – Central Ave. / Everett St.
At 4:30 PM, the victim reports their parked vehicle had been taken.

February 13th

Vandalism – 1700 block of Arlington Blvd.
At 10:23 AM, the victim reports a window of their vehicle was shattered between 11:00 PM on 02/12/2024 and 7:30 AM on 02/13/2024. 

Extortion – 5500 block of Poinsett Ave.
At 11:59 AM, the victim reports they were contacted by a suspect who made demands and threats of violence to the victim and victim’s family if the victim did not comply. 

Residential Burglary - 1500 block of Lexington Ave.
At 1:17 PM, the victim reports a suspect entered the residence through an unsecured window, went inside the residence.  The suspect took items and left through the front door of the residence, leaving the front door open.

Armed Robbery – 430 El Cerrito Plaza (Footlocker):
At 1:48 PM, the victim reports a suspect entered the store and took merchandise.  While fleeing, the suspect pulled up his shirt and displayed a handgun.

Organized Retail Theft – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 7:01 PM, two suspects entered the business and shattered the glass to a display case, stealing merchandise.  Both suspects fled prior to police arrival.

Brandishing Weapon / Criminal Threats / Petty Theft – 5010 El Cerrito Plaza (Dave’s Hot Chicken):
At 9:03 PM, the suspect entered the business, walked behind the counter and stole food.  The suspect ran outside and to a vehicle.  As the employee followed the suspect, the driver pointed a handgun at the employee.  The suspects fled in the vehicle prior to police arrival.

Robbery – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreens):
At 9:52 PM, the suspect entered the store and filled a trash bag with merchandise.  After leaving the store, the suspect pushed the security guard.  The suspect entered a vehicle and fled prior to police arrival.

February 14th

Petty Theft – 2000 block Mira Vista Dr.
At 10:01 AM, the victim reports their license plates were stolen between 12/21/2023 at 12:00 PM and 12/22/2023 at an unspecified time. 

Petty Theft – 1700 block Wesley Ave.
At 1:29 PM, the victim reports they noticed their vehicle doors unlocked and items missing. 

Stolen Vehicle / Attempt Assault on Peace Officer / Burglary / Conspiracy / Evading / Obstruction / Unlicensed Driver – 5900 block of Fern St.
At 8:01 PM, officers responded to a Flock hit of a stolen vehicle.  Officers located the vehicle as a suspect was attempting to burglarize a vehicle.  The vehicle fled the scene and was stopped after entering a dead-end street.  The suspect fled on foot and officers were able to catch and arrest the driver. The driver was later transported to juvenile hall.

Warrant Arrest / Narcotics / Drug Paraphernalia – 5800 Cutting Blvd.
At 11:21 PM, officers conducted a traffic stop and the driver was arrested on an outstanding warrant. The driver was also in possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The driver was cited on the drug charges and transported to Martinez Detention Facility on the warrant.

February 15th

Simple Battery and Criminal Threats – 11344 San Pablo Ave. (Denny’s):
At 7:18 AM, the suspect threw a cup of water at the victim after threatening the victim.  The suspect fled prior to police arrival.     
 
Stolen Vehicle – 7300 block of Pebble Beach Dr.
At 7:17 AM, the victim’s stolen vehicle was found unoccupied on the 1700 block of Arlington Blvd. The vehicle was recovered and returned to the owner. 

Stolen Vehicle – 3300 block of Belmont Ave.
At 10:26 PM, the victim’s vehicle was stolen on the evening of 02/14/2024.

Shoplifting – 10794 San Pablo Ave. (Marshalls):
At 7:29 PM, the suspect entered the business and attempted to leave the store without paying.  The suspect was stopped by loss prevention and placed under citizens’ arrest.  The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

Stolen Vehicle – 6050 El Cerrito Plaza (Barnes & Noble):
At 8:07 PM, the victim reports their vehicle was stolen between 2:30 PM and 7:20 PM.

February 16th

Battery – 9800 San Pablo Ave. (Wells Fargo):
At 9:47 AM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect after the suspect became upset with bank staff and began hitting staff and customers. The suspect was placed under arrest, cited, and released at the scene.

Driving Under the Influence - Potrero Ave. / Kearney St.
At 2:17 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito PD for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober family member.

February 17th

Possess Stolen Vehicle / Unlicensed Driver / Hit and Run / Resist Officer / Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Ashbury Ave / Fairmount Ave.
At 8:42 AM, a suspect was taken into custody after the suspect’s vehicle collided with several parked cars, trees, signs, and a house. The suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot into the high school.  Based on the outstanding description provided by callers, officers detained the man in the rear alley of the high school. The man was later released at the hospital for unrelated medical treatment. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.

Petty Theft - 1700 Block of Elm St.
At 9:31 PM, an officer reports the suspect stole the rear license plate from the victim’s vehicle.

Stolen Vehicle - 900 Liberty St.
At 12:01 AM, an officer reports the suspect stole the victim’s vehicle.
