Extensive Investigation Leads to the Arrest of Two Commercial Burglary Suspects
DATE/TIME: December 31, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m.
INCIDENT: Commercial Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, Felon With a Firearm, Possession of a Short Barreled Assault Rifle, Possession of Large Capicity Magazine, Felon With Ammunition, and Parole Violation.
LOCATION: 1500 block of Whittram Avenue, Fontana,
26000 block of Cypress Street, Highland.
SUSPECT(S): Channa Tho, 44 years of age, resident of Highland,
Jung Kann, 36 years of age, resident of Pomona.
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: On December 31, 2023, Deputy Padilla from the Fontana Sheriff's Station responded to a commercial burglary that occurred at a tow yard in the county area of Fontana. Padilla spoke to employees and reviewed video surveillance of the incident.
Padilla obtained assistance from Detective Pederson and developed suspect leads that identified Channa Tho as the subject seen on video surrveillance breaking into the business and used a tow truck to romove a large, bolted down safe from the building.
On February 15, 2024, members of the Fontana Station Detective Bureau and Multiple Enforcement Team (MET) conducted surveillance on a residence located on the 26000 block of Cypress Street, in the city of Highland. An arrest warrant was issued for Tho and he was taken into custody. Tho was discovered to be in possession of an illegal assault rifle, military grade ammunition, and a high capacity magazine, which violated the terms of his parole for a previos home invasion conviction.
Detectives continued the investigation and learned Tho had conspired with Jung Kann, who was a former tow truck driver at the business and was responsible for organizing the burglary. On February 22, 2024, Fontana Station members conducted surveillance on a residence on the 900 block of Hamilton Avenue in the city of Pomona and Kann was taken into custody without incident.
Channa Tho was booked in at the Central Detention Center on February 15, 2024, and Jung Kann was booked in at the West Valley Detention Center on February 22, 2024, for the above charges.
