Plane Crash Near Lake Hogan (Valley Springs)
On February 22, 2024, at about 4:15 PM, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a plane crash near New Lake Hogan Reservoir. While deputies were responding, dispatchers were able to plot the crash location. They noted it was in a very remote location with no road access. Due to the remote location, the California Highway Patrol Air Division was dispatched to assist with locating and contacting the occupants.
A CHP helicopter responded and was able to locate the 23-year-old female pilot (solo occupant). They transported her from the crash site to the Calaveras Airport, Maury-Rasmussen Field, where medical personnel were standing by. The pilot was evaluated and treated for minor injuries.
While speaking with the pilot at the airport, deputies learned the pilot was traveling from Calaveras Airport to Franklin, CA, when she was forced to conduct an emergency landing. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was notified of the incident and will coordinate the investigation and assist with the plane's recovery efforts.
Due to the ongoing investigation, there is no further information available at this time.
