NEWS MEDIA INFORMATION REPORT

SUBJECT OF RELEASE:  Stabbing Investigation

DATE AND TIME:  Approximately 12:50 A.M. on Saturday, February 24, 2024

LOCATION:  23000 block of West Cutler Road, Reynolds Township.

AUTHORITY/CONTACT PERSON:  Sheriff Mike Williams

Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent to a home in the 23000 block of West Cutler Road in Reynolds Township in response to a report of a stabbing on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at approximately 12:50 A.M.

The investigation revealed that a 40-year-old man from Jenison and his girlfriend, a 43-year-old woman from Grandville, travelled to a property in Reynolds Township owned by the Jenison man Friday evening.  During their stay, an argument erupted between the two.  The Jenison man reported his girlfriend kept trying to assault him and he repeatedly pushed her back to gain distance between the two.  The woman then entered the kitchen area, grabbed a knife, and came at the man with the knife raised.  The Jenison man said he attempted to grab her arm with the knife but was unsuccessful.  The girlfriend stabbed the Jenison man in the bicep.  The girlfriend then attempted to provide first aid and refused his request to take him to the hospital.  The Jenison man reported his girlfriend returned to the kitchen, so he ran to the neighbors for assistance.  Once at the neighbor’s home, a tourniquet was applied.  The man was transported to Corwell Health Grand Rapids for treatment of his injuries.

The Grandville woman was not located at the home.  A K9 search of the area was unsuccessful.  The prosecutor’s office authored a three-count warrant for the woman on Saturday.  The charges were Assault With Intent to Commit Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder, Assault With a Dangerous Weapon, and Domestic Assault.  There were repeated efforts to contact and arrest the Grandville woman over the weekend.  Sheriff’s Deputies learned the woman was on probation and went to the woman’s home on Monday, February 26, 2024, with her probation officer.  The woman was found to have taken her own life in her home.  The woman did have a criminal history and had convictions for domestic assault crimes.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Montcalm County Central Dispatch, Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services, Michigan State Police, and the Grandville Police Department.
