Dust Storm Warning until 12:45PM

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Dust Storm Warning for... Western Roosevelt County in east central New Mexico... Eastern De Baca County in east central New Mexico... Chaves County in southeastern New Mexico... Southern Quay County in east central New Mexico... Northwestern Curry County in east central New Mexico...

* Until 1245 PM MST.

* At 1040 AM MST, a dust storm was near Bitter Lake Wildlife Refuge, or 10 miles east of Roswell, moving east at 45 mph. HAZARD...Less than a quarter mile visibility with damaging wind in excess of 60 mph. SOURCE...Public. IMPACT...Dangerous life-threatening travel.

* Visibility in blowing dust on U.S. Highway 285 will be reduced to 1/4 mile or less at times during the next several hours and possibly later into the afternoon. Locations impacted include... Roswell, Fort Sumner, Dexter, Hagerman, Grady, House, Ragland, Mesa, Bitter Lake Wildlife Refuge, and Elkins.

* AFFECTED AREAS: CHAVES, NM ... CURRY, NM ... DE BACA, NM ... QUAY, NM ... ROOSEVELT, NM

Instructions:

Dust storms are unhealthy and have been known to lead to Valley Fever. Avoid outdoor exposure. Dust storms create dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero. If you encounter a dust storm, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake. Motorists should not drive into a dust storm. PULL ASIDE STAY ALIVE!
