Man Arrested with Firearm
Man arrested for possession of an unregistered firearm during a traffic stop.
San Mateo, CA – On February 26, 2024, at 11:20 p.m., San Mateo Police Officers were conducting proactive enforcement of traffic violations. An officer made a traffic enforcement stop on a black Chrysler traveling north on South Norfolk Street. The vehicle stopped near the intersection of South Norfolk Street and East Hillsdale Boulevard.
During the traffic stop, the three people inside the car were asked to step outside the vehicle. As the investigation continued, officers conducted a search of the car and located a loaded pistol, and a second loaded magazine in the back seat of the car. The pistol was not registered and did not have a serial number. During the investigation, it was determined Matthew Barnett was in possession of the firearm. Barnett was arrested for multiple firearm related charges and booked into San Mateo County Jail.

25400(a)(1) PC- Carry concealed weapon in vehicle. 25850(c)(6) PC- Carry loaded handgun not registered owner, 29180(c) PC- Own firearm without serial number, 23920(a) PC- Possess firearm without identification marking.
