Wilmington Police have arrested two men on gun and drug charges following an investigation.
During the month of February, members of the Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division have been conducting an investigation into illegal drug sales in the unit block of West 27th Street. On February 21, at approximately 12:15 p.m., police observed 21-year-old Ziare Davis-Shelton in the unit block of West 27th Street. Davis-Shelton was taken into custody without incident and found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun. Subsequently, police executed a search warrant in that block and 59-year-old Purnell Davis fled from the residence on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, Davis was taken into custody without incident. Police recovered .7 grams of crack cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.
Ziare Davis-Shelton has been charged with the following offenses:
• Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
• Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
• Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver
• Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
• Possession of a Controlled Substance
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $55,200 cash-only bail.
Purnell Davis has been charged with the following offense:
• Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution pending further proceedings.
